if he's moved to Idaho
would you be disappointed
if he dumped the trailer
bought a condo (although
I hear he still has those
little Chinese lanterns
strung from couch to
kitchen counter)
if he found a woman
without tattoos (okay,
she has one, but it was college
she was expected to rebel)
with perfect teeth
with a good job

one day he bought
new jeans, slipped them
on in the rickety living room
of the mobile, opened
the screen and stepped out--
naked chest and feet--
I hear he walked away
newly clean
