What do Communists
eat for breakfast?
by Hezekiah Allen
Taylor
For Sarah
very small, very pale children
and Vietnam Vets he tells her over breakfast
scorching the fried eggs he'd promised her during sex
he doesn't know why she has asked him that question
beads of sweat drop slowly into the frying pan,
swirling lightly in yellow yolk before disppearing
into the whole of the embryo
it reminds him of more than love -- all the ins
and outs, fine tuning; emotional baggage,
commitment, penetration
he tries to change the subject:
puppies, kitties,
duckies, Kosovo
I wonder if they really like the taste, she replies
