shoe tree
by Hezekiah Allen
Taylor
for the evergreens
choose broadly--
ones that won't mind
a prick or two (those
needles are sharp):
drape the 3D Hurricanes
from the Balsam Fir
(it will be easy once you
tie the laces together)
the Vaneli mules
should go along the lowest bow
of a Colorado blue spruce
if they look like they're walking
all the better
but save the expensive
for the deciduous
Manolo Blahnik for the
European larch--even Madonna
would approve--and the dogwood,
well, it should flower with Birkenstocks
and Dr. Martens, even a generic Payless loafer
could work if propped up right in the gnarly "V"
careful how you hang them, dear
when they fall
they should still be viable
