Angel, you want some bacon?
by Hezekiah Allen Taylor

because heavenly creatures
deeply desire pork stuffs
he hears

or so he heard
once
behind the Waffle House

he works it out over his tongue
nervous
but expecting to be
fully
completely
utterly
totally
rejected

her slight smile
her timid nod
brings a heavy hand to his heart
like clogged arteries

and he rejoices
praises the lord
and passes her
a shiny sliver
of freshly-washed--
and still warm--
fork
