screwing up means possible arrest
by Hezekiah Allen Taylor

it's so like a caper as to be parody
"we could go to jail for this" he whispers
as she crawls back into the darkened car
her hands cradling a small concrete statue
like a newly-birthed baby was entering
the dome-light dim of the vehicle
"what? gnome jail?" she replies
as he locks her door with an automatic
and ultra-solid click and squints
into his lack of headlights
and a blanket of suburban sleep
