How Adolf
Hitler Died
by Hezekiah Allen
Taylor
April 30, 1945
for so many years (the collective
like a fraction of one death camp
toll) Eva was more of a tragic
muse than a dirty little mistress
as last-minute wife (so much like
rice never thrown) she never
had a prayer of escaping her own
end--not even long enough to hear
victory fall from Allied lips
like spittle
in lower case, buried under Berlin
soil he ordered his own death
like chicken for dinner
the table setting immaculate
and every single serving
the exact temperature
of the chilled spring earth
