The Music Critic Admits to a Secret Love of Neil Diamond
by Bean Newton

Sitting in the parking-lot, listening
to the radio isn’t something I’m supposed to do:

The Ford Festiva has good speakers though, after
I spent a whole lot on new ones. A whole lot.

But the body panels still rattle.
It’d still be a Festiva, even if they paid me more;

maybe I’d paint this old one. Doesn’t matter
because I love the vinyl seats. They remind

me of the first time, in my old
Vega, the first time,

and that song,
"Sweet Caroline."
